Foreign Body in Eye — Which Doctor Should I See?

Avoid rubbing your eye. Blink several times to produce tears, which may flush out the object. Gently pull down your lower eyelid to look for the particle. If unsuccessful after a few minutes, seek medical attention immediately.

Seek emergency care if the object is embedded, metallic, or won't come out easily; if you have vision changes, severe pain, or bleeding; or if it scratches your cornea. Don't delay—eye damage can worsen quickly.

Only attempt removal if the object is loose and visible on the white of your eye. Use clean water or saline solution to rinse gently. Do not use tweezers or rub. For particles under the eyelid or cornea, see a doctor immediately.
