Inflammation of tendons causing pain, swelling and limited movement
Tendinitis is inflammation of a tendon, the thick fibrous cord that connects muscle to bone. It causes pain, swelling, and tenderness, typically around joints like shoulders, elbows, wrists, and heels.
Tendinitis is usually caused by repetitive motions, overuse, sudden increases in activity level, or injury. Age, poor posture, and certain sports or occupations increase risk of developing tendinitis.
Treatment includes rest, ice, compression, elevation (RICE), over-the-counter pain relievers, and physical therapy. Severe cases may require corticosteroid injections or surgery.
